Count Me In

Count Me In logo

Count me in is a campaign aimed at making Warrington an even better place to live, work, visit and do business.

It’s about making a difference for ourselves and for the communities around us. It’s aimed at encouraging more of us to become active citizens and recognising the difference we can all make. In many respects, Count me in is about doing the right thing.

Could you volunteer your time to a local cause or community group? Could you encourage those around you to become more active and healthy? Could you spend more money at local shops than national chains? By pledging to make a positive difference alongside other residents, communities and businesses, we can make Warrington a place to be proud of.

The campaign is yours... The list of things you can do to count yourself in is endless. Talk to your colleagues, friends and family about how you are already counting yourself in, or about how you can do things differently, to make Warrington a better place for those that live, work, visit and do business.

Volunteering

The voluntary and third sectors in Warrington are worth shouting about. After all they are worth an estimated £40 million per year. There are hundreds of established local, community and charity groups that you can get involved with.

Volunteering your time can take many forms. You could join a befriending scheme, become part of a community clean-up group, do some charity work or help with some of the town’s biggest events (yes, that’s volunteering too!).

Sparing your time (even just half an hour) to volunteer for a good cause can make a real difference. You can find out more about volunteering and opportunities available on the Warrington Voluntary Action website.

Active and healthy

Half of us in Warrington take part in some form of exercise at least once a week and Sport England suggests that we are also the most active region in the North West.

Small activities can have huge, positive effects on our health. Even just a 20 minute walk to the shops each day can make a real difference. There are plenty of opportunities to join a sports club, an outdoors group or a local gym. LiveWire has a range of fitness classes, swimming pools and sport groups to suit all abilities. There are also plenty of local grassroots groups, like Warrington Parkrun, where you can get more active for free!

To see how you can get more active search for opportunities available now.

Shop local

Shopping locally builds communities. For every £1 you spend locally, 63p stays in the local economy, compared to 40p with the nationals and multi-nationals. By spending money with independent businesses in Warrington, we can secure a strong and prosperous economy that creates more jobs and promotes a varied high street.

Recycle more, recycle right!

8 out of 10 of us are recycling more and recycling right. In fact, Warrington’s recycling rate has increased from 18.9% in 2006, to 52.7% in 2016. This is a remarkable improvement and puts Warrington on target for a 55% recycling rate by 2020.

It’s important to know what you can put in each bin, and almost 9 out of 10 of us get recycling right. If we can cut out the small mistakes that lead to contaminated recycling, we can make Warrington a more sustainable, cleaner and greener place with less waste.
