Warrington Youth Club - Loud & Clear
Loud and Clear is a training course for young people aged 14-19 who are interested in volunteering on any of our other programs or for any other organisation. It's run one night a week and lasts for twelve weeks, we deliver it three times a year with courses starting in January, April and September.
Topics covered include communication skills, disability, mental health, makaton sign language, child protection and safeguarding, first aid, diversity, bullying, confidence building, how to run a session for young people and being a team player. The course is presented in an informal setting, which encourages group discussions where the young people can learn from each other as well as the course leaders. Also there are plenty of activities which allow them to learn whilst doing and a few film clips to aid their learning.
At the end of the program they get a certificate and are provided with progression routes within the youth club as well as being better equipped to find volunteering opportunities elsewhere and excel at a volunteering role should they find one. Even if for whatever reason they don't go on to volunteer then the course is still a worthwhile experience for them in terms of developing their confidence, their social skills and improving their knowledge and awareness in all the topics we cover.
Here are some quotes from young people who have completed Loud and Clear:
‘lt is a fun and welcoming environment where you can learn new things and meet new people.’
‘lt has changed the way I see certain things for the better, and has helped me understand why some of my friends and family feel the way they do.’
‘It's really opened my eyes to a lot of things like the seriousness of bullying and mental health; it's helped me understand more about other people.’
‘You learn valuable life skills and get a better understanding of different, important sensitive issues.’
‘There have been significant issues in my life which have been addressed in the loud and clear sessions and it has helped me understand much better.’
